The Media Marine company was formed to provide specialist marine services to the television and film industries. We can provide Hardboat charter, RIB charter, commercial divers, technical divers, ROV services, safety services as well as consultancy on any marine matters. We can also put together a professional team from the TV and film industry, with many years experience, capable of any film or television work including construction.
The aim is to provide a level of professionalism and expertise with fully qualified and experienced personnel working to the highest standards.
The Captain
Ed Gibson’s family has a history of seafaring in the waters around Orkney ,Shetland and the North of Scotland. His great grandfathers were pilots in the Pentland Firth and Scapa Flow, with one spending six months a year with the Hudson Bay Co. His grandmother has been highly documented as being the last survivor from the ‘Kestrel’ and witnessed the scuttling of the German Fleet in Scapa Flow during the First World War.
Ed’s commercial diving experience was gained throughout the waters of the North of Scotland. He has been involved as a diver and dive supervisor on various projects such as harbour construction, breakwaters, cable laying, inspection and survey work. He also has extensive experience of working from and with workboats, tugs, converted MFVs and RIBS.
During Ed’s time on the MV Karin, he was involved in varied diving charter expeditions (liveaboard) with parties of up to twelve people on historical and naval wrecks in and around Orkney, Shetland and the North of Scotland. He was part of the ‘Pheasant Hunt Expedition’ which located the wreck of HMS Pheasant as documented in ‘Diver’ and ‘Immersed’ magazines, as well as on the web. This was the deepest dive done by a British Forces team at that time with guests Bernie and Tom from ‘Immersed’ magazine. Ed was part of the team that located and put a civilian team, ‘starfish divers’ on the ‘King Edward V11′ in the Pentland Firth, which at that time was the deepest cold water dive on open circuit (115m). His time on the Karin involved working with John Thornton, the owner, who is a world renowned diver and instructor.
During Ed’s time in television he has worked on many productions both inside and outside the studios, on programmes ranging from children’s shows such as 50-50, Live and Kicking, Sat Show and Children’s 999 to light entertainment and quiz shows such as Live Floor Show, Offside, Still Game, Caledonian MacBrain etc. as well as dramas such as Sea of Souls and River City.
Furthermore, Ed has worked on feature films such as Man to Man which had a £40 million budget, Greyfriars Bobby, On a Clear day, Wild Country, Hallon Foe, Arn and The Waterhorse. Between the latter two films (both to be released 2007-2008 ), he worked on ‘The Sony Exploding Paint Advert ‘ for HD TV’s .
